Leyre Romero Gormaz and Jil Teichmann are the final contenders of the City of Caserta International Women’s Tennis Tournament – ​​Cogepa Trophy, with an impressive prize pool of $60,000.

The first court of the Caserta Tennis Club in via Laviano is ready to host this incredible showdown this afternoon. The match will start at 5.30pm and only one of them will have the honor of engraving their name in the prestigious hall of fame of the competition.

Leyre Romero Gormaz, a talented 22-year-old Spanish tennis player, recently celebrated her birthday on April 6.

In the semifinal, she showcased her skills by decisively defeating the top seed, Brazilian player Laura Pigossi, with a commanding score of 6-2, 6-2.

Her performance was nothing short of extraordinary, securing her place as a finalist and giving her the opportunity to fight for the final victory.

“I’m really happy to play the final here in Italy – comments the Spanish tennis player – waiting to play another important match and show my best performance to win my best title of the season. I had a good time in Caserta, the people are really nice, I really like Italy and the Italians and I think they organized this tournament in the best possible way and this made us players happy. I will definitely be back.”

The other finalist will be the Swiss Jil Teichmann (214), who beat with a score of 1-6; 7-6; 7-6 the seventeen year old Japanese Sara Sajto (249) after three hours and thirty minutes of play.

The pair formed by the good Colombian tennis player Yuliana Lizarazo and the brilliant Greek player Despina Papamichail triumphed in the doubles tournament. In an exciting match that kept everyone in suspense, they overcame the British pair of Ali Collins and the Colombian Maria Paulina Perez-Garcia in three sets, with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 10-3.

Despina Papamichail, who last year suffered a bitter defeat in the doubles final together with Camilla Rosatello against Moyuka Uchijima and Anastasia Tikhonova, redeemed herself in spectacular fashion. In recognition of their exceptional performance, the finalists were awarded with a unique trophy representing the majestic Vanvitellian palace, created by the talented designer Mario Basile.

Each finalist also received a set of three bottles of wine from the renowned Fattoria Alois: a 2018 vintage for the winners and 2020 for the finalists. Furthermore, they were honored with a set of cosmetic products generously offered by dalKem Negi.

The final match of the 35th edition of the Caserta internationals will be broadcast live by Radio Caserta TV, visible on the broadcaster’s Facebook page, on the website www.radiocasertatv.it; and on television from the SmarTv Italia app access the broadcasts of the Caserta-based broadcaster.
