Voter turnout is growing for the elections this Sunday 9 June in which people vote for European elections, regional elections in Piedmont and administrative elections in many municipalities in Italy. The national figure for the European elections exceeds 25%, up about 11 percentage points compared to last night. We are more or less in line with the previous European elections in 2019, when in the end just over 50% of those entitled to vote went to vote (54.5% to be precise).
The regions of Italy are driving the turnout North astride the 30%While Calabria, Sicily and especially Sardinia they are last in terms of detachment with values lower than 20%. The differences between the centers where people also vote for the municipal elections and those where they vote only for the European elections are notable: turnout is much higher, understandably, where people also vote to elect the Mayor and City Council.
As regards the European elections, the provincial capital with the highest turnout in Calabria and Sicily is Messina (excluded Caltanissetta And Vibo Valentia where, however, people also vote for the Municipality). A very interesting fact, perhaps linked to the debate on Bridge over the Strait. Messinawhich touches the 20%is the city with the highest turnout in the entire South: Naples it is stopped at 16.61%Taranto al 17.74%.
