The superior council of public works approves the technical-functional adaptation of the master plan of the port of Gioia

The Superior Council of Public Works has approved the functional technical adaptation to the master plan of the port of Gioia Tauro, aimed at the restructuring of the quay in the E section and the creation of a docking tooth along the north side quay serving the RoRo and Ro ships -Pax.

Some non-substantial changes have been defined within the ATF which, due to their nature, do not involve a “variation” to the port master plan but which impact the pursuit of specific objectives, in order to broaden the competitiveness of the port of Gioia Tauro, adapting it to new market demands and thus to the new navigation needs and the changing size of the global fleet.

In particular, the intervention was necessary as, currently, the quay intended for the docking of RoRo ships is equipped with three 25 meter long slides, which are no longer suitable for the dimensions of the RoRo and Ro-Pax ships of latest generation, which climb the port of Gioia Tauro.

The planned works are, therefore, aimed at allowing full functionality of the port, guaranteeing faster times for port activities and greater safety conditions in the transhipment operations of cars, along the Terminal managed by Automar.

Specifically, the works will aim to adapt the dimensions of the slides located along the quay, serving the doors of the RoRo and Ro-Pax ships, from the current 25 meters to 35 in order to facilitate the embarkation and disembarkation of cars.

At the same time, a new docking point will also be built with an open dock based on 35 meter long piles.

The functional technical adaptation to the master plan of the port of Gioia Tauro was drawn up in compliance with the local urban structure, which is not altered, and defines interventions that do not cause any significant environmental impact.
