As part of the strengthening of the territorial control services arranged by the Arma di Catania throughout the entire Etna Province, aimed at preventing and repressing widespread illegality, the Carabinieri of the Radiomobile Section of Gravina di Catania arrested 3 young people, of which 2 were criminals resident in Belpasso and 1 with a clean criminal record resident in Camporotondo Etneo, and a minor from Belpasso reported for aggravated theft in competition inside a construction site.
In particular, it was around 10.30 pm, when a patrol dedicated to the prevention of predatory crimes, traveling along the Via degli Oleandri of San Pietro Clarenza, intervened before all the thieves could move away from a construction site where the construction of some villas.
In fact, the soldiers of the Carabinieri, having noticed suspicious movements inside the construction site, which was in the dark, decided to check what was happening and therefore headed towards the buildings on foot and surprised a boy who was trying to escape, blocking him. The young man from Belpasso, only 20 years old, was obviously unable to give the Carabinieri a valid justification for his presence on the construction site, moreover at that time of night and, on the contrary, he began to nervously look around, as if he were looking for help from part of accomplices. In fact, in the distance, the operators heard someone running away and, thus, they were certain that the 20-year-old was not alone.
Having secured the boy, the soldiers started looking for the fugitives and, having arrived near Via Umberto, the central road artery of the town, they found a van parked in the stall in charge of the bus stop and decided to carry out investigations. .
At that point, the thief arrested shortly before realized that in a short time the Carabinieri would reconstruct the entire story, so he admitted that it was the van that he and his accomplices had rented to carry out the theft inside the construction site .
The investigators then traced who had rented the van, discovering that it had been a 21-year-old from Camporotondo and, after asking for reinforcements, they set out on his trail. The boy was caught near his home in the company of another “snack companion”, a 29 year old from Belpasso and, within a few minutes, the last accomplice, a minor, also joined them.
The 4, now discovered, told their “good night”, reporting that they had rented the van the previous morning specifically to carry out the theft on the construction site, where they had already ascertained there were no video surveillance cameras.
Thus, having the evidence against them, the Carabinieri arrested the 3 adults and reported the minor to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.
