ANCONA – The electoral marathon for the European elections continues for the second day. In the Marche, voters are also called to the polls for the administrative elections which involve 148 municipalities, of which 142 have under 15 thousand inhabitants, 6 have over 15 thousand inhabitants, including three provincial capitals: Ascoli Piceno, Pesaro and Urbino. Polling today, Sunday 9 June, polling stations open from 7am to 11pm.

The European elections

In the Marche region, 1,281,283 voters are called to the polls (657,623 women and 623,660 men), 71,996 vote for the first time. There are 31,651 voters residing abroad, registered with the Aire, while 81 are temporarily abroad. There are 1,085 students who vote off-site. The Marche is part of the central Italian constituency, together with Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany, which will elect 15 of the 76 parliamentarians who will sit in Brussels (22 people from the Marche region are competing for a seat in the European Parliament).

To vote you must be at least 18 years of age: at the polling station, to exercise your right to vote you must show a valid identification document and your electoral card. Split voting is not permitted. To vote, you can tick the symbol of a party and indicate up to three candidates from the chosen list. In the case of multiple preferences, candidates of different sexes must be voted for, i.e. three men or three women cannot be voted for. You can also vote by crossing out only the party symbol, in this case the vote will not go by default to the head of the list, but only to the list.

The local elections

In the Marche region, 628,925 voters are called to the polls (320,612 women and 308,313 men), of which 11,782 vote for the first time. In the province of Ancona there are 29 municipalities voting (125,181 voters), in the province of Ascoli Piceno 22 municipalities vote (101,470 voters), in the province of Fermo 22 municipalities are voting (31,422 voters), in that of Macerata 37 municipalities (129,363 voters) and finally in the province of Pesaro Urbino there is voting in 38 municipalities (241,489 voters).

In municipalities between 5,000 and 15,000 inhabitants, mayors can be elected up to a third term, while below 5,000 the mandate limit has been eliminated. Three provincial capitals are up for vote: Ascoli Piceno, Pesaro and Urbino. Any runoffs, scheduled only in municipalities with more than 15 thousand inhabitants, will be held on 23 and 24 June. Among the most populous municipalities that will have to elect a new mayor, with a resident population above 15 thousand inhabitants, there are Osimo (Ancona), Potenza Picena and Recanati (Macerata), Fano (Pesaro Urbino).
