Modena mayoral candidates, Mezzetti is the only one not to respect silence on social media – Politics

Faced with the regulatory vacuum and simple Agcom indications, most political groups do not publish content. In Modena only Mezzetti spreads propaganda as if nothing had happened

For years Lapressa.it has offered free and independent information to its readers without any type of public contribution. Private advertising covers part of the costs, but it is not sufficient. For this reason we ask those who read us and follow us every day to give us, if they wish, a contribution based on their possibilities. Even a small support, multiplied by the tens of thousands of people from Modena and Emilia-Romagna who read us every day, is fundamental.

Let’s start from an assumption: to date, electoral silence on social media is not bound by a law. According to the legislation in force, in fact, on the day before and on those established for the elections, rallies, direct or indirect electoral propaganda meetings (in public places or places open to the public), the new posting of printed matter, wall newspapers are prohibited. or others and propaganda posters and private radio and television broadcasters are also prohibited from broadcasting electoral propaganda. No mention of social media. It is true that Agcom has drawn up specific guidelines for digital platforms, such as Facebook or Google, but there is nothing binding in absolute terms.

Now, common sense, gallantry and respect for substantive rules would require candidates to refrain from using social media during the hours of electoral silence. This almost always happens, but there is no shortage of exceptions at national and local level.

At the local level, the seven mayoral candidates have so far all respected the electoral silence on social media. The propaganda posts stopped for everyone at midnight yesterday, apart from the centre-left mayoral candidate Massimo Mezzetti. In fact, both on Facebook and on Instagram Mezzetti has also recently published explicit invitations to vote against him (photo above published at 3pm). Different thing, obviously, is the generic photo of oneself at the moment of depositing the ballot in the ballot box, something that Negrini and the outgoing mayor Muzzarelli have already done in Modena, or the photograph of the list representatives (something that Modena changes has done) .
