MODICA – An epistolary between 2 young people from Modica has returned home, almost 100 years after it was written: Antonino Moncada and Gemma Grana. Found by chance by Graduate A Marcello Nori working at the Nunziatella in Naples, the correspondence was studied and transcribed by Dr. Dèsirée Risolo. The correspondence was taken over by the Society of Ragusa di storia Patria in the hands of its president Dr. Carmelo Arezzo and delivered into the hands of the mayor of Modica Maria Monisteri while waiting for the bureaucratic procedures to be completed so that these letters can be added to those already present in the State archive of Ragusa in the Antonino Moncada collection.

The professor. Giuseppe Barone and Dr. Marcella Burderi have roughly traced the lines of a complex historical period, the First World War, when the need for writing was felt as a means of communication, comfort and connection with one’s family and with their own land. Unitre di Modica also supported the event, present with many of its members. Copies of the letters are already available at the Municipal Library of Modica, kept by the official Lucia Buscema.
