Cerignola, waste removal and ‘extraordinary’ cleaning interventions in the industrial area

Two boxes and a van full of waste: scrap metal, tyres, mattresses, various bulky items and rubbish bags. And it is only the first day of work for the workers of Ecodaunia, tasked by the Municipality with cleaning a large area of the industrial area, near the interport.

The activity of recovering abandoned waste and cleaning the area was financed by the Puglia Region which awarded the Municipality of Cerignola a contribution of just under 50,000 euros. The recovery activities will continue for a few more days and will end well ahead of the initial timetable, which sets the end of the works for July 31st.

“Only at the end of the extraordinary collection will it be possible to know exactly what and how much has been abandoned by people and companies willing to pollute, even seriously, our countryside in order to save the costs of disposal done according to the rules”, comments Environment Councilor Michele Lasalvia.

“The financial support obtained from the Puglia Region is very precious for the Municipalities, whose financial capacities are not adequate to deal with the reclamation of these real illegal landfills. Furthermore, in the case of the Municipality of Cerignola, the loyal and fruitful collaboration between the offices allowed us to correct the evaluation errors that had initially excluded us from the contribution”.

“We are committed every day to combating the harmful and dangerous phenomenon of waste abandonment, also by seizing opportunities such as those offered by the Puglia Region thanks to the good work carried out by the technostructure. With facts we refute specious and ungenerous criticisms.” concludes the mayor of Cerignola Francesco Bonito.
