Benevento, Torre, Pasquariello “strikes” the teachers: “They must not misrepresent the facts”

“There will be some discomfort, but let’s not misrepresent the facts.” The municipal administration responds to the group of school teachers «Tower» who on Thursday strongly contested the transfer of over 500 students and teachers to 3 locations from next year. Diaspora made necessary by the imminent start of work for the reconstruction of the middle school complex built in the 1960s, and of the nearby “Sala” primary school, which will be reborn in 2026 in a single building thanks to the maxi-project financed with 17 million from the Pnrr. The inconveniences can be understood, first of all the splitting of the teaching staff which will have to be divided into three, between Pacevecchia, Capodimonte and via Camerario, to cover all the classes. But the councilor Mario Pasquariello defends the reasons for the choice: «The statement from a group of teachers is written showing little knowledge of the facts or, which would be unbecoming, misrepresenting them. The financing will allow the reconstruction (a real school campus adapted to modern safety and teaching standards will be created) of two important schools which, otherwise, in a few years from now, based on the results of the seismic vulnerability checks, would have had to be closed. The administration immediately addressed the problem of the dislocation of the school population, and did so by constantly communicating with the school management. In the evident impossibility of finding a building that was suitable to accommodate the entire school population, we arrived, not without difficulty, at a solution that reconciled the possibility of using other suitable and ready-to-use buildings”. The delegate for Public Works then confirms that the pupils of the «Nicola Sala» will remain in the current location also next year while those of the “Federico Torre” will have to divide themselves between Pacevecchia, Capodimonte and the historic centre, and concludes: «Renovated and perfectly suitable buildings, who in recent years have hosted the school population of other institutes who I thank for having faced the inevitable hardship with self-sacrifice and a spirit of collaboration to achieve a common and essential objective: to have safe and functional school buildings. Nothing but a disrespectful attitude towards culture and educational institutions!

THE TEACHERS

In the note, for their part, the teachers had reported the scenario we will face from September: «We will have to distribute our 18 weekly morning hours in 2, 6, 9, and some even in 18 classes. Just thinking of being able to distribute a weekly timetable so that all teachers are present in the various classes on time seems like science fiction to us.” And the manager Edoardo Citarelli notes on this point: «Without going into the merits of the choices made, it is clear that the division into three locations will lead to the violation of the contractual rights of the teachers, with foreseeable litigation. This is because the gap hours, which must be compensated by contract, will explode. And failing that, teachers will be able to legitimately assert their reasons.” On an operational level, work should begin at the end of the month. First the moving phase must be completed which, according to informal communications received from the school, will begin on June 22nd with the first classes going to Pacevecchia, to continue with the second classes destined for Capodimonte and the third classes to via Camerario. The exams, therefore, should take place regularly in the Tower building.

THE OPPOSITION

The opposition returns to the attack on the issue with Giovanna Megna: «From the beginning we asked for a plan that could guarantee the serenity of families and teaching staff. We were accused of exploitative controversy, we were told that it would be done “in due time”. Interventions are necessary, but they must be accompanied by adequate planning that does not sacrifice, again and again, educational continuity. If we had really moved in time, we would have been able to evaluate more convenient solutions, such as the structure of Sister Orsola Mezzini, or participate in the ministry’s call for contributions for the leasing or rental of temporary structures.”
