Livorno The journey of Tyrrhenian the post-flood hydraulic safety measures continue, this time targeting the Rio Maggiore. It is section 9 (lot 2, section 1 and 2) for an amount of 3,535,772, 34 euros which also involved the demolition and reconstruction of the bridge in via di Salviano, to adapt the outflow section. Some external arrangements are missing, but we are practically at the end. We move to section 4, via Rodocanacchi-via dei Pensieri, the one behind the north curve of the Armando Picchi and which saw works worth 5.1 million euros, the opening of the graved section, the adaptation of the hydraulic section , the demolition and reconstruction of the bridge between via dei Pensieri and via Rodocanacchi, which was completed some time ago. There is still a strip of land, which has tall grass, at Via Lusena, left for the moment to provide impetus to the work that remains to be done in the area. Greenery with trees will then be created and a small roundabout will also be built there, useful for residents to easily get around by car and go back in the direction of Viale Nazario Sauro. A few meters and you arrive at section 3, via Rodocanacchi-via Toti, which fell behind schedule, also because a variation had to be made compared to the first project, meeting the (more than legitimate) requests of residents who were found with the buildings at the level of what will be the new course. Where possible, it was right to “eat” land as much as necessary. The river, at that point, comes to us from the piece already buried behind the stadium and, from the bridge, you can still see a piece of the concrete roof from the 1930s which will have to be removed. On the right, the wall of the new tomb has already been erected and will rest, closing, a few meters wider than it was before, on a wall already built on the opposite bank and consolidating the slope. In short, a reinforcement that will avoid damage to the foundations of the buildings. Subsequently, the tomb will be demolished by proceeding ten meters at a time through a “piling”, to reduce the risks to zero. The section will ultimately be brought to three times as much as what was there before. There will also be a cycle path and a pedestrian walkway.

You enter the construction site, all made of piling, and you notice the new geography of the waterway. Which widens in the direction of the white house that destroyed a family that night. The innermost wall that is there now will go down, giving way to the much stronger one built and close to the residence. Not easy jobs. Because they have to move forward, while at the same time ensuring the passage of water. With the dry season, we will be able to proceed more quickly. The works should be a good 80 percent completed by September. Then, you look out onto Viale Nazario Sauro, where the orange net practically halves the roadway from Barriera Margherita to Via Toti. All the underground services had to be moved (water, gas, sewerage, electricity) which were located right under the five pine trees which were cut down last June, creating controversy. Subservices now housed in the right place, by September, with the tortuous progress among the condominiums, here too it will finally be back in place, restoring complete viability to the road. We are targeting, with our backs to Via Toti but looking towards Barriera Margherita, the further works necessary to complete the hydraulic regulation. The reconstruction of the little bridge which is there even if you don’t notice it and the ongoing executive planning of the final stretch which from via Toti will adapt the final “tunnel” segment but with a widened riverbed, which will reach the roundabout called “fagiolo”. Everything already contracted. Here, you enter section 1 and 2 for a total amount of 10,899,202.56 euros, which includes the work in the Academy which presumably will not begin before 2026. You go back. Where can you imagine stretches 5 and 6, from upstream of Via dei Pensieri to Via Cattaneo, state land, work in progress for 9,843,847, 11 euros (415,772, 13 municipal funds, the rest state funds). In short, the route that passes parallel to the school field and crosses the Livorno 9 football facility. Trapezoid section banks, with earth and grass embankment. Work will be completed next summer, also creating the parallel and temporary road (it will be passable by the end of the month) moving the stands and changing rooms, car park, underground services, demolition and reconstruction of the bridge at the height of the car wash and which will connect with the one in via dei Thoughts with the river equipped with banks tripled in width.

It ends with Via di Popogna, the bridge that acted as a stopper that cursed evening, causing the waters to overflow and then reach the stadium area, immediately flooding the greenhouses of the Biricotti company. It is section 7, which goes from upstream via Cattaneo to upstream via dell’Ardenza, works worth 7.1 million euros which also include greater light here and the reconstruction of the bridge. Here, the executive planning is underway. The road as we know it now will be narrowed and will be closed to become a car park serving the cemeteries and will deviate into via Settembrini to also be able to take a new road which will pass between the Ardenza cemetery and the rugby field, emerging onto the Aurelia at height of the Esso distributor. It could all be done by 2026.l
