Starting from the early hours of the morning of June 4th, the State Police arrested three criminal suspects issued by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Catania for “attempted aggravated murder and mafia association”. The measures were adopted as the suspects were accused, in collaboration with each other, of the crimes of attempted murder against a former collaborator of justice and of mafia-type criminal association.
In particular, the investigations launched immediately after the attempted murder which occurred on 25 April in Vittoria, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Catania, have made it possible to hypothesize that the people arrested were responsible for committing the ambush, as well as the existence of a dangerous armed criminal organization of a mafia nature, attributable to the “Victorian Stidda”.
The investigation activity corroborated by technical interception activity and traditional judicial police services has made it possible to believe that within the criminal association there was the objective of the physical elimination of a list of people who collaborated with Justice and who are present in Vittoria, this with revenge purposes and in order to consolidate the exclusive control of all illicit affairs of interest to the criminal organization over Vittoria and the entire province of Ragusa.
The investigative activity underlying the measures adopted also made it possible to shed light on the availability of a considerable number of weapons, including war weapons, and on the possible use by those associated with the mafia clan to carry out the criminal plan of the organization and to acquire control of city economic activities through extortion activities carried out against numerous entrepreneurs and traders.
