Cosenza, the Palace besieged by waste: how many mini-landfills around the Municipality

COSENZA The curse of the abandoned Lancia Y: it could be the title of a film (a Woody Allen mystery) to tell a catchphrase. Perhaps an obsession for mayor Franz Caruso: who signals a blue Y (at the beginning of Telesio course) and removes another light blue one (along Crati Ponte della Massa area) but then another one appears, this time red: moreover, a few meters from the Municipality, therefore right under his nose.

Mattress on rubbish bags, Largo Giuliani (in front of the church of San Nicola); all photos were taken this morning

Largo Salvatore GiulianThis is the car park next to the San Nicola cinema which leads to the maze of side streets which formed the heart of the Rivocati neighbourhood. An area that “gives” glimpses of ordinary degradation (the photos date back to yesterday morning): a mattress overlooking the churchyard plastically placed on a pile of bags full of rubbish, a pile of vases, boxes and recycling bins on which spontaneous vegetation now has taken over, more rubbish bags and broken chairs obstructing the passage of pedestrians on the pavement, more rubbish left mockingly in defiance of two signs “Area under video surveillance by the municipal police” and “Prohibition of waste disposal”. And again: tire rims, barriers which, instead of protecting an alley, transform it into a landfill for chairs, bins and rubble.

Just passed via Monte Baldowhere a small pile of munnizza accompanies the traveler on his journey to offices, bars and shops, all that remains is to choose: once you turn the corner you will surely find a mini landfill, even more hateful for being located a few meters from the City Palace, much closer than the one reported yesterday morning on the road that leads to Piazza dei Bruzi.

Only the neoclassical palace now home to the Grand Orient of Italy shines above via Trento. Mayor Caruso’s appeals follow one another, as do the clean-up campaigns, including abandoned cars: in a press conference yesterday the former mayor of Rende Marcello Manna praised his colleague from Cosenza for having accelerated the quater scrapping, now Franz Caruso needs a further he made a bold effort to prevent the situation from getting out of hand, as happens beyond Campagnano.
