The financiers of the Provincial Command of Viterbo have recently concluded an intervention in the field of environmental police which led to the identification and preventive criminal seizure in Civita Castellana (VT) of an area of approximately 35,000 square meters and a quantity of an estimated 350 tonnes , of illegally deposited special waste and the reporting of the person responsible to the competent AG.
The inspection activity originates from one of the daily economic control services of the territory carried out by the Civitonic yellow flames which, thanks also to the operational support of the Air Section of the Guardia di Finanza of Pratica di Mare, carried out an intervention at a mining located near the Strada Statale Flaminia, where piles of aggregates of various types, abandoned vehicles and waste materials were found, treated and managed in a manner that did not comply with the requirements set by the sector regulations, since the deposit on the ground took place without no protection capable of preventing soil pollution, resulting in strong damage to environmental matrices. The reconnaissance of the locations was also carried out with the support of specialized personnel from the Mining Activities Area of the Lazio Region.
The responsible person was reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Viterbo for the crime consisting in the unauthorized management of waste, sanctioned by article 256 of the Consolidated Law on the Environment, Legislative Decree 152/2006, and for having deposited the aforementioned waste on a floor without the waterproofing and water collection systems required by regional legislation, in application of articles 113 and 137 of the aforementioned Consolidated Law.
The criminal responsibility of the suspect, however, will be ascertained only at the outcome of the trial with an irrevocable criminal sentence. In fact, the presumption of innocence that article 27 of the Constitution guarantees to citizens until a final sentence applies to him.
The activity of the Guardia di Finanza continues to combat crimes that undermine the integrity of the soil and landscape aimed at safeguarding the territory and ecosystems from pollution, as well as the recovery of illicit proceeds accrued by those who perpetrate behavior that evades and disregards the regulations designed to guarantee economic and environmental legality.
