Viareggio: young tourist dies on campsite. He was on holiday with the school




TORRE DEL LAGO (LUCCA) – A 16-year-old German boy, who was part of a group on a school trip to Tuscany, was found dead this morning, 6 June 2024, in the Burlamacco campsite in Torre del Lago in Viareggio.

According to an initial reconstruction it was a natural death. The health workers who arrived on site shortly after 10am were unable to do anything other than confirm that he had died. Law enforcement investigations are underway.

UPDATE AT 4PM

The victim was part of a group of students aged between 16 and 17 who arrived from Bremen on Monday and were due to leave tomorrow. The hypothesis at the moment is that the death was probably caused by an illness: an autopsy has however been ordered. The medical examiner Stefano Pierotti also arrived on site for further ritual checks after those carried out by the colleague of the medical vehicle which intervened together with the ambulance which had confirmed the young man’s death.

The Carabinieri are conducting the usual investigations with the help of an interpreter: they also listened to the boy’s companions, all shocked by this tragedy, while they were spending a few days relaxing and having fun at the seaside.
