LA SPEZIA – The tender notice for the construction of the first performance lot of the new Ravano terminal has been officially published in the European Official Journal.

An important new step for the strengthening of La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT), the Contship Group Terminal Container Gateway in La Spezia.

The construction program of the container terminal is developed in the executive project, divided into 2 performance lots. Interested parties will have until 12:00 on September 3rd to submit their application. The award will take place by the end of December 2024.

“We add an important piece to ours strategic development plans with which LSCT aims to be a point of reference in the dynamics of world trade by conquering new traffic shares” commented Matthieu GasselinCEO of the Contship Italia Group.

“At the same time we will proceed with the rationalization of the terminal areas to prepare for the start of the construction site. To strengthen the operations of the terminal and allow us to better manage the growth in volumes in this phase of transformation, we have identified the optimal solution in the West bunker area: we are thinking of a logistics project to be carried out with electric vehicles and which will also have a significant impact on the territory by acting as a driving force for employment”.

Commenting on the last months of intense work preceding the official launch of the tender, Gasselin added: “I would like to thank the Port System Authority of the Eastern Ligurian Sea and the Municipality of La Spezia. It is also thanks to the close and fruitful collaboration established that today we can say we have fulfilled the commitment made and the timing shared for publication. Now we look ahead and confidently await the certificate of successful war reclamation, another fundamental step towards the realization of our ambitious project. In just over a year, the objectives achieved together with the entire Contship Team are numerous and important: the recovery of volumes, the internalization of the “carousel” service and the launch of the tender for the construction of the new Ravano terminal. Seeing our Group grow and progress makes me proud.”

Thanks to the expansion, Contship aims to improve the TEU handling capacity, going from 1.4 to 2.0 million and to simultaneously increase the use of railroad. The objective is in fact to reach 50% of the total throughput, responding to the demands of an increasingly demanding market attentive to the speed, efficiency and sustainability of the supply chain.
