The victim was a 26-year-old Moroccan: 5 compatriots arrested, one is still wanted
Torture, aggravated robbery, aggravated bodily harm and deformation of appearance of the person through permanent facial injuries. These are the very serious charges against five irregular Moroccanshomeless and with a criminal record – a sixth is still wanted – stopped by the state police on the orders of the La Scala prosecutor’s office for the ambush of a 26-year-old compatriot, also homeless, on 29 May in an abandoned building in the area of the goods yard of the station Porta Nuova in Verona. The five arrested are also quite young: the eldest is 31 years oldthe youngest will complete 24 years next August. For all five, the interrogation that will take place in prison has been scheduled for this morning, Thursday, from 10.45 onwards.
The stopped
The names of stop who find themselves behind bars with heavy charges including torture, are Mohammed Dali, born in 1999 in Morocco, defended by the lawyer Emanuele Luppi; Azdine Saki, born in 1995 in Morocco, defended by the lawyer Francesco Spanò; Hamid El Khaldouni, born in 1992 in Morocco, defended by the lawyer Simone Bergamini; Azdine Atalla, born in 2000 in Morocco, defended by the lawyer Cristiano Pippa; Abdelatif El Kamaly, born in 1997 in Morocco, defended by lawyer Simone Bergamini. Today’s validation hearing will be held before the investigating judge Marzio Bruno Guirorizzi, who will be responsible for the decision on the validation arrest made in recent hours by the Prosecutor’s Office.
The sleep ambush
The victim of this atrocious “Clockwork Orange” style beating would have been caught while sleeping. The criminals, according to what was reconstructed by the investigations of the flying squad, conducted in collaboration with the Polfer, the Flying Police, the crime prevention department of Padua, the Forensics and the Padua dog trackers, would have tied hand and footand then hit him with sticks And bottles causing him serious injuries and even permanent facial deformation. Then, before he could escape, they had him robbed of the smartphone and 400 euros in cash. A fact that would specifically concern the environment of petty crime which revolves around the station, among the most critical areas and most frequently visited by the police and the army, and on which shadows currently remain.
The rescue attempt of two migrants ten days earlier
Above all, the investigators are trying to understand whether there could be a connection between the brutal ambush and what happened ten days earlier: the Moroccan victim, in fact, is the same person who on May 19th had attempted to save two migrants ended up for reasons still unknown in the Camuzzoni canal, right near Piazzale XXV Aprile: one of the two, Abdulbadiou Inou, a 19-year-old from Benin and asylum seeker hosted at the Il Samaritano reception centre, was found drowned; the other, a Somali citizen, is still missing. The 26-year-old Moroccan, having noticed the two people in the waterhe had tried in vain to dive to recover them.
The investigations
