Sassari, new hopes in the fight against breast cancer

An awareness meeting on breast cancer in Sassari.

The president Angela Dettori Sannia of the AMMI Sassari section and the president Maria Antonietta Lamberti of the Feder.Spev section of Sassari organized a conference on breast cancer, given its importance as the most frequent neoplasm in women, representing 30% of all female tumors. The event will be held on Saturday 8 June, in the Sala della Foundation of Sardiniain via Carlo Alberto number 7 in Sassari, at 10 am.

Every year, around the world, they are registered 1.6 million new cases of breast cancer, with over 50,000 new cases in Italy. More than 80% of diagnoses concern women over the age of 50, but the number of cases among women is increasing under 35 years and among men, with a growth rate double compared to a few decades ago.

The conference is aimed at underlining the importance of early diagnosis and the multidisciplinary treatment strategy, which, thanks to effective treatments with new drugs, has significantly reduced mortality since breast cancer since the 1990s to date. Currently, many people live well with this diagnosis, thanks to advances in the medical field.

The conference program includes, after the institutional greetings, moderation by the doctor Pierina Cottu, former breast specialist at the Clinical Surgical Institute of Sassari. The reports will include the intervention of the doctor Daniela Soro for “Early diagnosis of breast cancer; professor Alessandro Fancellu, director of Smac Sassari: “Simplifying and facilitating breast cancer treatment”; doctor Annamaria Contini (surgeon): “Breast cancer: mastectomy, quadrantectomy, conservative therapies”; doctor Valeria Sanna (oncologist): “Innovative oncological therapies and lifestyle: long survival in breast cancer”; Dr Antonio Contuformer Chief Oncologist: “The oncology association ‘Mariangela Pinna‘ODV”.

This meeting represents an important opportunity to raise community awareness on the prevention and management of breast cancer, promoting accurate and updated information on the best diagnosis and treatment practices.
