In the shadow of the Dolomites is where you live best in Europe

The happiest citizens in Europe? They live in the shadow of the Dolomites. The city where people live best is Trento according to a survey by the European Commission (with the contribution of Istat) called “Quality of life in European cities”. Well, in Trento 95.4% of citizens declared that they were happy with their life in the city.

The investigation in Italy and Europe

In six Italian cities, very high percentages of the population satisfied with living in their city are observed (above 90%) and they are, in order: Trento, Trieste, Cagliari, Bergamo, Brescia, Bolzano.

More than half of the citizens of some Italian cities believe that the quality of life in their city has worsened in the last five years. They are Florence, Sassari, Bolzano, Catania, Parma, Rome, Venice and Reggio Calabria.

The highest percentages (over 85%) of people satisfied with health services, doctors and hospitals are observed in the EU in Benelux cities and in Germany. In Italy the highest percentages are recorded in the Centre-North (Bologna, Verona and Trieste).

Those satisfied with public transport are in Milan, Trieste and Bolzano, while the lowest percentages are found in some cities in southern Italy, in Rome and Perugia.

Spaces are in Trento, Bolzano and Cagliari, the lowest are recorded in the cities of the South.

Sports infrastructure indices are high in Finnish cities, in some French cities and in others in continental Europe. Among the Italian cities, Trento, Bologna and Bolzano stand out.

With reference to cultural infrastructures (theatres, museums, libraries), the Italian cities with the highest levels of satisfaction are Milan, Trento, Bergamo, Parma, Brescia, Trieste, Bolzano, Florence.

In around three-quarters of Italian cities, only less than half of the inhabitants are satisfied with the cleanliness of the city.

The use of the bicycle as a means of daily transport in Italy is still rather limited.
