A big party in Piazza Napoleone to celebrate the 210th anniversary of the foundation of the Carabinieri.

The ceremony was held this morning (June 5) in Piazza Napoleone in the presence of the prefect Giusi Scaduto, the mayors of the local municipalities and over 100 students from the schools of the province.

Yesterday they were released by the Army and its provincial commander, Arturo Sessa, data on the activity of the Carabinieri in Lucca. Very significant data.

Carabinieri, in the province of Lucca 220 arrests and over 2,300 complaints in one year

In Piazza Napoleone there was a picket of 18 historical uniforms used by the Carabinieri from 1916 to 1987.

The ceremony took place with an array of representative platoons and vintage Carabinieri vehicles. In particular they were deployed, thanks to the availability of Club Balestrero of Lucca, unique examples that are part of the history of the weapon:
6 cars (Aprilia cabriolet Graber from 1935; Fiat 508 Balilla Spider from 1934; Alfa Romeo AR 51 from 1950. This car was assigned to the army together with 7 others for mountain territoriality, and later they were all allocated to the first carabinieri battalion Tuscania paratroopers for special missions; Fiat 1100/103 Camionetta from 1951; Fiat 900 T Pulmino from 1965/1975; Gazzella Alfa Romeo Giulia Super from 1972), 6 motorcycles in use between 1938 and 1942 and two bicycles, a Bianchi model 1908 in use by the royal carabinieri during the First World War and a Bianchi model 1912, in service at the beginning of the twentieth century. At the end of the ceremony, the vintage vehicles remain on display, together with various latest generation cars and motorbikes from the Carabinieri, until 7pm.

The foundation of the Carabinieri dates back to 13 July 1814, when King Vittorio Emanuele I, with Royal Patents, established the Royal Carabinieri, a body of soldiers “distinguished by good conduct and wisdom” who, in addition to contributing to the defense of the State in times of war, were in times of peace “especially responsible for ensuring the preservation of public and private safety”. A dual function that the Carabinieri still retain: the defense of the State as an armed force and the defense of citizens, as a police force.
