Euro 2024 – Italy-Türkiye 0-0, report cards: Chiesa and Orsolini disappoint. Retegui doesn’t sting. Cristante and Cambiaso are saved

Italy-Turkey, Italy’s penultimate friendly match in the run-up to Euro 2024, ended with a score of 0-0. The match, played at the Dall’Ara stadium in Bologna, was refereed by the Austrian Sebastian Gishamer. Italy will return to the field on Sunday 9 June in Empoli against Bosnia, with kick-off at 8.45pm, to play the last test before leaving for Germany. Below are the votes for the protagonists of the match.

Italy’s report cards

William VICARY 6 – Reactive on Demiral’s close-range shot, in the first half he performed a reckless header on the attacking midfield.

Giovanni DI LORENZO 5.5 – Not the best Di Lorenzo and unfortunately it’s nothing new this season. Imprecise and hasty in his supports, especially in the first half. A little better in the second part of the race.

Gianluca MANCINI 6 – First half so-so, then he finds the measures: the pair with Bastoni needs a bit of running-in, but unfortunately for Spalletti there isn’t that much time available.

Alessandro BASTONI 6 – The 4-man defense is not his natural habitat, but he gets by with experience and order. He doesn’t make any big mistakes and sets off a couple of his own tracers.

Federico DIMARCO 6 – The 4-4-2 limits him in offensive projections, but his foot is always his: dangerous at the end of the first half with an incursion of his own. More opaque in the second half.

from 85′ Riccardo CALAFIORI sv – Enters the final minutes, just in time to receive an ovation from the Dall’Ara crowd.

Bryan CRISTANTE 6.5 – One of the most concrete and present from a physical point of view. He comes close to scoring at the end of the first half with a shot that hits the post. Certainly not a memorable performance from him, but at least he tries.

JORGINHO 5.5 – Direction at a small trot, without overdoing it, with a few too many pauses. The formation chosen by Spalletti does not enhance his qualities, he can definitely do better. Breathless.

from the 62nd minute Nicolò FAGIOLI 5.5 – He places himself in the middle of the pitch, limiting himself to working a few balls without overdoing it. A little shy entrance.

Riccardo ORSOLINI 5 – He often tries one-on-one but never manages to create numerical superiority. It was reasonable to expect something more from him. Replaced during the interval.

from the 46th minute Andrea CAMBIASO 6.5 – Tall winger, has a very interesting approach to the game. In the final he serves a great ball to Raspadori. Motivated and unpredictable when accelerating.

Lorenzo PELLEGRINI 5.5 – He floats on the three-quarter line, but lacks the right edge to become dangerous. He comes out after suffering a blow to his right knee. The hope is that it is nothing serious.

from the 68th minute Davide FRATTESI 6 – It’s electric, as usual. He fits in as soon as he has some space, but is not rewarded and assisted by his teammates.

Federico CHURCH 5 – Wide to the left, never dangerous and not very enterprising. The hope is that his condition, as well as his belief, will improve as the European Championship approaches. Spalletti takes it away at half-time.

from 46′ Mattia ZACCAGNI 5.5 – He has 45 minutes to convince Spalletti, but essentially wastes them by playing an anonymous test with very few rings.

Mateo RETEGUI 5.5 – He moves well, proposes himself and often seeks dialogue with his teammates. The positive notes, however, end here: the few balls he has available he wastes. And for an attacker this is never good news.

from 68′ Giacomo RASPADORI 5.5 – He has the right ball in the final, but his left low shot is blocked by Bayndir. It’s his only ring, otherwise he’s harmless.

Ct. Luciano SPALLETTI 5.5 – He decides to rely on the 4-2-3-1 but neither the formation nor – above all – the interpreters – give satisfactory answers. The team plays with the brakes on, the athletic condition is still far from top. A bit of concern ahead of the debut against Albania is legitimate, but fortunately there is still time to find the right situation.

Türkiye’s report cards

(4-2-3-1) – Bayindir 6.5; Celik 6 (from 66′ Ozkacar 6), Bardakci 6.5, Kabak 6 (from 42′ Demiral 6.5), Muldur 6.5; Calhanoglu 6, Ayhan 6 (Ozdemir 6 from the 66th minute); Aydin 6 (from 46′ Omur 6), Yazici 5.5 (from 54′ Kokcu 6), Yildiz 5.5; Yilmaz 6. Coach: Montella 6.5.
