Around 9.30pm this evening, Wednesday 4 June, a very strong bright yellow-green light crossed the skies of Italy. As has already happened in the past, the apparition caught the attention of numerous people: the reports came mainly from Central Italy, but there are those on Facebook who claim to have also seen it in Milan, as well as in Avellino, as well as Pescara and Perugia.
“Viewed from the province of Ferrara in a south/south-east direction, yellow trail and rather low on the horizon. There was still a lot of light so the trail was well defined” writes a user. “I couldn’t believe it. It was amazing guys!! Seen it from Anagni (FR)” another person commented on social media.
Several witnesses reported seeing a ball of yellow light (there are also those who write that they saw greenish light) falling from the sky. “It was very bright, seen from Tuscany,” writes another.

What is a fireball
A bolide is a fragment (or multiple fragments) of an object of anthropogenic origin or blocks of rocky material. Similar to a meteor, but brighter, upon entering the Earth’s atmosphere, it tends to burn due to the very high heat generated by air friction.
The color is given by the chemical composition (if it were confirmed green today’s would have a prevalence of magnesium).
