“In an attempt to silence the only voices in the entire Sannio territory who dare to go against the Mastella system, the Municipality of Benevento has implemented a squalid strategy to prevent the “Peace Earth Dignity” list from the closing event of the electoral campaign in Piazza San Modesto, scheduled for the evening of Friday 7 June”. This is what is reported by the Sunni MEP Piernicola Pedicini, secretary of the Territorial Equity Movement and candidate for the European elections on 8 and 9 June with Michele Santoro’s “Peace Earth Dignity” list.
“After having initially indicated the square as one of the spaces identified for electoral rallies, the municipal offices – he adds – subsequently tried to deny them to us, citing the concomitance with the initiatives for the patron saint’s day as justification. And the arrogance of these people is such that they even go so far as to place the responsibility on the parish priest, who has nothing to do with the political games of the Mastella spouses and the officials who serve them, whose sole aim is to prevent the spread of free thought in a territory that they believe is their exclusive property.”
“Benevento is not a Mastella fiefdom. In that square – Pedicini announces – there will be our activists handing out leaflets, there will be our people and there will be all those who have always been committed against those who, instead, work for the exclusive interest of themselves and their dynasty”.
Note followed by a statement from the Municipality of Benevento: “With reference to the statement issued by the electoral committee of the “Pace Terra Dignità” list, distributed through the press, it must be specified that the Municipality of Benevento, Productive Activities Office, did not consider it to implement any “sleazy strategy to prevent the “Peace Terra Dignità” list ” the closing event of the electoral campaign in Piazza San Modesto, scheduled for the evening of Friday 7 June.
In reality, the Official Responsible for the Procedure deemed it appropriate to quickly inform the requesting electoral committee of the concomitance of the electoral event with the celebrations in honor of “Corpus Domini” planned in the same area and authorized with GM Resolution no. 134 of 15/05/2024 (with installation of Luna Park, Illuminations, street vendor stands etc.).
No refusal was made other than the opportunity to agree with the Parish Priest on the methods of use of the spaces. In the name of truth, he would like to underline that there was no interference by the Mayor in the matter which concerns a mere technical aspect.
As far as it is concerned, formal authorization was expressed to the electoral committee for the realization of the event, requesting, at the same time, the Parish Priest of the church of San Modesto to interrupt the activities planned as part of the celebrations for 06/07/2024 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
