Quality of life in Verona: citizens’ opinion

of Claconvr

But Are the people of Verona satisfied with the quality of life in their city? Enough, judging from the European survey just published, even if approval (89%) is below the European average and two very important sectors failed such as transportation and security.

Ranking of European cities: where is Verona?

Verona is one of the cities examined by the Quality of life in European cities survey, conducted by the European Commission with the contribution of Istat in a selection of European cities, referring to 2023. The survey covers 83 cities throughout Europe for a total of over 70,000 interviews.

The maximum value goes to Trento (95.4%). Trieste, Cagliari, Bergamo, Brescia, Bolzano also passed with full marks (+ 90 percent).

If the people of Verona say that “The city is a good place to live for people in general” with a consensus of 94%, for many the quality of life in the city has decreased (low percentage of satisfaction), and very few, 19 % say that the quality of life in the city has improved; only for 46% the quality of life in the city has remained the same (less than one in two); few are satisfied with the neighborhood in which they live and finally they declare themselves not very satisfied with the life they lead.

Quality of life in Verona: passed and failed

Among the positive indicators health care in the city which has an approval rating of 77% of citizens questioned; little satisfaction however for sports facilities in the city, as well as for green spaces and usable spaces in the city. There is good satisfaction with the school structures and cultural structures which are not judged badly but not too positively either.

And let’s get to it environmental quality which does not hold great enthusiasm. The degree of satisfaction with the air quality in the city is low (only 41%) and so it is dissatisfaction with the noise level in the city and for the cleanliness of the city, slightly positive approval ratings are achieved (64%).

There failure actual arrives instead on the front of the public transport which does not exceed the pass mark in any item of the questionnaire. Completely dissatisfied with public transport in general, the Veronese are dissatisfied because it is not convenient, difficult to obtain, they reject its frequency and reliability.

Another critical issue for the Veronese is that of safety. Safety in the city is not satisfactory and few feel like they are in a safe neighborhood (less than 69%); Public transport is considered unsafe, while trust in the people of the city and the neighborhood remains.

It doesn’t even shine relationship with the public administrationwhose approval ratings never enter positive territory: neither for the times, nor for the ease of the procedures, nor for the level of taxation, nor for corruption.

On the front of the economic well-being the opinion is quite positive for the job opportunities in the city and positive for the affordability of housing in the city. However, satisfaction with one’s work and family income is low.

Verona, a city for families and the elderly

Verona is then considered by those who live there a good place for families with small children and for the elderly with high levels of satisfaction between 83 and 86% and in which one does not suffer from loneliness.

However, the opinion on the inclusiveness of the city is different and it is not considered a good place to live for ethnic minorities or for LGBTQ people and it is not a good place to live even for immigrants from other countries.
