PERUGIA – More than one report a day. In one year, 478 cries of alarm from women victims of violence reached the Carabinieri of Perugia. In total, precautionary and non-precautionary measures were applied to 407 subjects. This data was provided by the provincial commander of the Carabinieri, Sergio Molinari, on the eve of the celebrations for the 210th anniversary of the founding of the force, underlining the “particular attention” paid by the military.
The data on the red code, continued Molinari, are not «the result of an unprecedented wave of violence but derive from an awareness of the phenomenon, thanks also to the activity we carry out of an informative, preventive nature, under the coordination of the judiciary, together with other law enforcement agencies and associations.” Furthermore, the commander recalled that from June last year to today “two rooms were inaugurated in the companies of Spoleto and Todi, for the protected listening of victims of violence, as part of the now ten-year cooperation with Soroptimist International” .
In Perugia, Molinari further specified, the force is also engaged «in the prevention and repression of crimes of a predatory nature, against property, thefts and scams in particular, phenomena which always create great social alarm and in the fight against drug dealing, another plague deeply felt by citizens.” In one year there were over 51 thousand calls to the single emergency number 112, which resulted in interventions carried out across all operational components. Over 123 thousand people were identified during preventive services and more than 91 thousand vehicles were checked. The action to combat crime led to the arrest of 461 people (32 for theft and nine for robbery) and the reporting of another 3,939 individuals.
As part of the fight against drug dealing, the force has prosecuted 717 crimes, with 83 arrests and over 45 kilos of drugs seized. In the territory of the province of Perugia, which in the last 12 months has been marked by serious road accidents, including fatal ones, the Carabinieri have carried out intense road traffic control activities which involved, among other things, the reporting to the Authority judicial investigation of six subjects for the crime of vehicular homicide, the detection of 271 violations of the highway code for driving while intoxicated and 35 for driving under the influence of drugs. Commander Molinari also underlined the work carried out by the forestry carabinieri group of Perugia, by the Nas, by the unit for the protection of cultural heritage, by the labor inspectorate unit and by the ecological operational unit. «The Perugian territory is beautiful, full of culture, values, and must be protected – said the provincial commander – For us as an institution the need is the control of the territory, the protection of public order and safety and above all the function of closeness and listening to the citizen in a preventive and repressive way”.
