New tragedy on Sicilian roads. On the stretch of the Gela-Scoglitti state road a van hit two cyclists. One of them died, the other is in code red hospitalized. The extremely violent impact occurred shortly before the Dirillo Bridge, in the Ragusa area.

The victim is from Mazzarrone

The victim of the accident was called Raffaele Mazza, from Mazzarrone in the province of Catania. The other cyclist was seriously injured and was transported to hospital with a red code.

This is SB, seventy years old. When the alarm was raised, the 118 health workers, the air ambulance and the police arrived on site and closed the stretch of road to traffic to allow the rescuers to intervene safely.

A section of the state road was closed, in both directions, in Gela, from km 280.200 to km 282.000. One person was injured in the accident. Traffic is currently being diverted onto alternative routes: SP 194 – for vehicles coming from Gela towards Vittoria; SP 90 – for vehicles coming from Vittoria towards Gela. Anas teams, firefighters and law enforcement are present on site to clarify the dynamics, to manage traffic in complete safety and to allow the restoration of regular traffic in the shortest possible time.

Fear in Ragusa, car flies six meters and ends up on the railway

A few days ago there was great fear in Ragusa when a car, for reasons yet to be ascertained, took off from the overpass and ended up on the railway. The car driven by a young man with his mother also on board tore off the metal railing and fell about six metres. It all happened shortly after lunch time. The fire brigade personnel intervened in Piazza Vann’Antò where the accident occurred.

Fortunately, according to initial reports, the occupants independently reached the ordinary roadway waiting for help. Firefighters have made the area safe and are now waiting for a railway trolley to transfer the Ford Fiesta to a point in via Archimede where it can be transferred aboard a tow truck. 118 personnel, police and local police were present on site.
