It costs more than a thousand euros to insure a vehicle in the Campania capital, over 600 in Turin while Milan stops at 500. The north-east is cheaper. The number of accidents, the average compensation and scam attempts weigh heavily. The analysis of Facile.it

Sometimes clichés melt away upon impact with reality, other times they are confirmed. How many people hear about the capital of the South, but this time there are the 12.5 million estimates collected by the Facile.it website and processed by Adnkronos to prove that Naples it is the most expensive city to insure a car in Italy, and the reasons are “objective third elements”, they assure from the online portal.

In the Campania capital the policy for civil liability alone costs 1,135 euros, far ahead of the second most expensive city in Italy which is Palermo, stops at 677 euros, just under double. Third is Bari with 671 euros, then we find Rome with 666 euros, Genoa (659 euros), followed by Florence (639 euros) e Turin (620 euros). In eighth position in the ranking we find Cagliari (610 euros), in ninth Catanzaro (606 euros). The top ten closes Perugia, which falls below 600 euros, settling at 590 euros. Going down the rankings, Bologna stops at 546, Milan it does even better with 501 euros followed by Trent (481 euros), the first to fall below 500. The picture changes if the analysis is extended to the provinces, where other areas of Italy are close to Naples. Starting with Casertawhere it stands at 1,014 euros, or Lawn where it costs 824 euros on average.

the Managing Director Insurance of Facile.it Andrea Ghizzoni explains that “in addition to the subjective characteristics of the motorist” such as age, merit class, insurance history and so on “there are objective third elements that have an impact on prices. One of the most important, for example, is the accident rate of a specific area, i.e. the number of accidents and the risk of accidents detected in a specific area”.

Then there is obviously “the average cost of compensation for accidents, calculated on a territorial basis”, which “has an important weight in determining the tariff proposed to the motorist”. Furthermore “there is the factor of the number of scams, or attempts of fraud, to the detriment of the companies themselves. In areas where these phenomena are more widespread, the cost of the policy will be higher.” The average age of vehicles in circulation and the strategies of each insurance company also have an impact. Ghizzoni added that after last year’s increases in car insurance, inflation was “slightly decreasing, but it is still too early to say whether” this decrease could be “a stable trend, a sign that the increases in 2023 have completely absorbed the effects of the new economic context, or of a temporary variation within an upward trend”.
