Through theuse of a drone delivered to the institutes of punishment cell phones and cards registered to non-existent people. Four are now accused before the preliminary hearing judge of the Benevento court, which has territorial jurisdiction, because in the Benevento prison, in November last year, in addition to delivering mobile phones, they had also added drugs.
In yesterday’s hearing, the defenders asked and obtained to benefit from the abbreviated procedure. There was also the establishment of a civil party, through the State Attorney’s Office of the Ministry of Justice. The Ministry, in fact, believes that this repetitiveness of drone incursions into penal institutions has caused a series of problems, from damage to the image to security management, but also regarding the use of the installation of special equipment capable of intercepting them. A civil party that was admitted by the preliminary hearing judge Roberto Nuzzo, who decided that the verdict for the four will be issued at a hearing scheduled for 8 July.
The defendants are Simone Iacomino41 years old, from Portici, now detained in Agrigento; Veronica Virgil37 years old, from Giugliano e Salvatore Sbrescia54 years old, from Portici, both under house arrest; Vasil Dziatko36 years old, required to sign in Sutri, in the province of Viterbo. The Asti Prosecutor’s Office started the investigation at the end of last year. The investigation ended with an order from the Piedmont investigating judge, who then forwarded the documents to Benevento, for territorial jurisdiction. According to the prosecution, the four created an organization which, through a suitably modified drone, delivered mobile phones to various penal institutions.
In addition to the Benevento prison, investigators believe that the deliveries also took place in the prisons of Asti, Saluzzo, Agrigento, Catania, Ascoli Piceno, Teramo, Avellino, Ariano Irpino. According to the reconstruction of the investigators, one of the participants in the organization did was located a considerable distance from the prison, within which there were those who collected the packaging and provided for the marketing of the contents. There was also a price list that included one thousand euros for smartphones and 300 euros for micro-phones. According to the investigators, Iacomino was at the head of the organization and then proceeded to reward the other associates. The defendants are defended by lawyers Ettore Marcarelli, Laura Filippucci, Fiorella Fabozzo, Francesco Armentano and Gianluca Bona.
