“At the end of March, the councilor for traffic and municipal police had publicly announced, not without a surge of pride, that the important interventions for the opening, 25 years after its construction, of the underground car park in Largo San Paolo were been concluded. A stance, therefore, which suggested that shortly thereafter the expected event would finally materialize. Now, however, more than two months have passed and not even the shadow of the long-awaited inauguration. And to say that, in this period, it would be absolutely necessary due to the fact that, during peak hours, the number of visitors has increased and, therefore, parking spaces decrease, to the point of disappearing, in an inversely proportional manner”.
This is supported by Comibleo, the spontaneous committee of residents of the ancient city, hoping that for the Municipality of Ragusa the failure to activate the Largo San Paolo car park is only a temporary inconvenience and that it can finally open its doors as soon as possible. “While we’re at it, speaking of car parks – Comibleo again – it would be appropriate to understand how it ended with the one in via Discesa Peschiera, a project which is being talked about on and off and about which, however, at the moment there is no certainty realizable. Will this parking be done or not? Because if the answer is negative, then it is more essential than ever to find other solutions. Ibla must be surrounded by a buffer zone dedicated to rest areas. Hypotheses that are complicated to define, but not impossible. And while we’re at it, let’s remember that transit along the ring road, where there are cars parked, especially in the narrowest sections, is made problematic by the passage of buses. We have been reporting for some time that the width of the roadway is not suitable. Also for this reason the need to find alternative solutions emerges preponderantly.”
