Italian Gran Turismo Sprint Championship, Pegoraro on Ferrari wins in Imola

The crew composed of Lorenzo Pegoraro from Terni and Simone Patrinicola (Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo2) won race 2 of the GT Cup class held at the Imola racetrack during the second round of the Italian Gran Turismo Sprint Championship. The bearers of the Best Lap deservedly won after a good first stint by the Sicilian driver who controlled an excellent second position behind the poleman Hancock, after starting from the third row of the grid. Pegoraro then completed the job by immediately taking the lead at the start of his stint and deservedly winning a race characterized by three safety cars and numerous penalties which significantly changed the finishing order.

At the finish line, in fact, the Belgian Gilles Renmans (Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo2) and his cousins Giacomo and Matteo Pollini (Lamborghini Huracan ST Evo2) had finished behind the winners, but after the race the Double TT Racing driver was penalized 5 seconds for overtaking with yellow flags and slipped to fifth position, while the Giacomo Race drivers were given a 10 second handicap for irregularities under the safety car regime which saw them relegated to 11th place. Further penalties were given to Oliva-D’Auria (+15 seconds) and the Chinese Han (+5 seconds) which allowed Carminati-Pellegrini to win the GT Cup Am 1st Division.

By virtue of the penalties, behind Pegoraro-Patrinicola were Tribaudini-Zanon (Lamborghini Huracan ST Evo2-VSR) and the winners’ teammates, Croccolino-Bucci, finally on the podium after some unlucky races, while fourth place went to Polverini-Liana (Porsche 992). The ZRS Motorsport crew, first in the GT Cup AM 2nd Division, brought home the fourth victory of the season in as many races, making themselves among the favorites for the Italian title well in advance.

Due to the penalty, Renmans finished the race in 5th place ahead of Milner-Hancock (Lamborgini Huracan ST-RS Historics), the Egyptian Badawi (Lamborghini Huracan ST Evo2-DL Racing) and the two Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo2s of Di Fabio -Pierantoni (Easy Race) and Lovati-Trentin (Mertel Motorsport), while in the GT Cup PRO-AM 2nd Division Palma-Navatta won with the Raptor Engineering Porsche 992.
