On the occasion of the Giostra on 22 June 2024 the Group will enter Piazza Grande with well 51 items. The Group leaderthat is, the person who is directly responsible for the “scenic” and musical part (characterized by a different costume and headgear) will be Marco Memonti, assisted by drum leader Emanuele Nocentini.
Memonti is now a veteran of the Piazza and arrives with this at nr. 7 editions as parent company. In this edition of the Giostra they will be 5 new kids who will make their debut in the Square: Alessio Berneschi, Leonardo Bianco, Elia Lorenzini, Filippo Lorenzini and Jacopo Talladira.
1 Labarum (the one who precedes the group and carries the standard)

12 drums (including three “basses” that mark the time)
31 Chiarine (the real voice of the Giostra)

Music and historical procession
For the Giostra in June the Group will stick to the traditional schedulewithout significant changes. -Historical parade: Songs specifically about the step slow to give time and rhythm to the procession. –Piazza Grande: Immediately after the announcement of the entry, the “Ring Pietri“, a piece fast which focuses attention on what will happen shortly after. The Group starts traveling along the Lizza on the “Step Two”. Note and appreciate the characteristic “change of pace” from fast to slow which the whole group performs in unison in the Lizza. It’s time for “March of the Carousel” more commonly known as “Monci”. Piece written by the founder of the Group and now entered into the minds and hearts of all Arezzo people. The “March of the Carousel” is a very difficult piece to perform for both the clarions and the drums who must perform sixty-three drum beats.
Once the piece has been performed, the Group takes its place in the Square and accompanies the Quartieri and the other participants as they enter the Campo.
The entry into Piazza della Lancia d’Oro is accompanied by the song “Gear”. The moment of the performance of “Land of Arezzo”, a song written by Giuseppe Pietri (with lyrics by Alberto Severi). A musical curiosity is the fact that in Piazza Grande the full version is not performed, but only the melody of the verse and the chorus twice.
Historical notes
The Music Group of the Giostra del Saracinoalready present since the first editions of the 1930s and, in the post-war period after the interruption of the years 1941-1947 with the name of “San Donato Group“, was established autonomously in 1955 thanks to the stubborn and brilliant idea of William Monci, musician from Arezzo with a passion for Giostra. His strong and decisive personality still characterizes the Group today. Ideally, he is still in command of the Musicians: sul labarumthe banner that precedes the formation, in fact has his name imprinted on it.
Over the years the Group has grown, both from a numerical and qualitative point of view, and has been able to make itself appreciated in Italy and abroad in the events in which it has participated.

For the three-year period 2024/2026 the President of the Group is Mauro Nappiniwhile Samuele Dini is his Deputy.
The Board of Directors is also composed as follows:
Secretary: Tommaso Cardeti; Treasurer: Fabio Marconi; Superintendent: Andrea Milesi; Councilors: Greco Carlo, Memonti Marco, Storri Claudio, Tacconi Lorenzo.
The musical preparation of the Group is entrusted to the Maestro Marco Masters.
Social activity and future commitments
The Music Group currently has 180 members, both active and supporters.
The Music Group is registered with Regional Register of Social Promotion Associations (APS). The Music Group has been based in Piazzetta del Praticino for several years now. A prestigious headquarters, in a property owned by the City of Arezzo, which over time the Group has enhanced by carrying out significant maintenance and improvement works.
The Music Group he tries and trains throughout the year, twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9pm to 10pm in the gym of the Teatro Mecenate. In the summer the tests move to the Prato gardens. Activity increases in June and September in preparation for the Giostra del Saracino.
