Massive, almost total participation of the staff employed in the school canteens in Legnano to the national strike called by the unions to forcefully demand the renewal of the collective agreement for the catering sector. The participation of workers in the rest of the Alto Milanese area was also good.
The protest took place today, 4 June, in front of the Legnano hospital where there is a canteen managed by Sodexo. Here the service was not interrupted as happened in the canteens of the city schools. «We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to families but the time had come to make the voices of these workers who find themselves working for absolutely undignified wages heard – explains Rossella Rossi of the CGIL -. Their wages are stuck at three years ago without taking into account the surge in inflation. Most of them work 14 hours a week for 400-500 euros a month and are not paid in the summer months: the answer cannot and must not be bonuses. Today we are proud of this massive participation of female workers and we ask even more forcefully that companies return to the table to guarantee the renewal of the contract.”

More than a year after the resumption of negotiations for the renewal of the National Contract for Public Businesses, Collective Catering, Commercial and Tourism, the collective catering companies belonging to the ANIR and ANGEM employers’ associations formally warn Filcams CGIL, Fisascat CISL and UILTuCS signatories of the contract from undertaking any determination relating to the collective catering sector. In other words, more than three years after the expiry of the CCNL, the collective catering companies associated with ANIR and ANGEM are threatening those who want to reach a renewal capable of guaranteeing decent salary conditions for workers in the sector.
