Tourism. Campania is the first region in the South for the number of holidaymakers – Ondanews.it

Estimates of the presence of foreign tourists in the beautiful country have arrived.

According to data put together by “Il Sole 24 Ore” in 2023 the Italian tourism reached and exceeded the numbers of 2019 (last year not affected by the global pandemic) in terms of arrivals and attendance. Looking at the territorial distribution, the region with the highest number of presences during the last year is Campania with the 4.5% of national attendance, that is, just over 20 million visitors. Our region also establishes itself as thethe only one in the South to attract foreigners.

The tourism sector has fully resumed its role as driving force for the Italian economy and the first months of 2024 indicate that the race continues. Lots of tourists in Naples and Salerno.

The beyonds 134 million of arrivals (+2.3% compared to pre-pandemic values) e 451 million of presences in hospitality establishments (+3.3% compared to pre-pandemic values) last year represent for the moment an absolute historical record. Results possible also thanks to the leap made last year: compared to 2022, the growth in arrivals was in fact 13.4% and that of the presence of 9.5%.

I certify it Istat And Ministry of Tourism in the first joint survey in which the data from the statistics office were integrated with those from the “Alloggiati web” portal (the data transmitted by the managers of the accommodation establishments). Numbers from which other significant trends emerge such as the more pronounced growth of the non-hotel sector compared to the traditional hotel sector and the return of foreigners as the predominant share of travellers.

Lazio (+25.3%), Lombardy (+16.8%) and Sicily (+13.9%) are the regions with the greatest increase in presences both compared to 2022 and compared to pre-pandemic values, greater than 10% against a national average of 3.3%.

It should be noted that in all regions of Southern Italy, with the sole exception of Campania, the tourist clientele remains mostly Italian.
