The historic center of Sassari comes alive with solidarity against the crisis – S&H Magazine

Sassari. On Saturday and Sunday, via Frigaglia, a historic artery in the historic center of Sassari now emptied of commercial and productive activities, comes alive in the name of solidarity and mutual aid.

For the past four years, the Sa Domo de Totus association has been organizing the collection and distribution of new or second-hand clothing. The rule is simple: bring what you want and take what you need, obviously all free and in the name of popular mutual aid.

This year the young people of the FGC also came to the rescue of Sa Domo, adding a parallel activity: «In addition to clothes, this year we also collected long-life foodsexplains the head of the FGC federation Pierluigi Coccothe high cost of living, caused among other things by the continuous increase in military spending, puts a strain on the pockets of the proletarians and sharing seems to be the only possibility of making ends meet, even for those who are apparently lucky enough to have a good life of life».

At the entrance to the association there is a registration box, but the data collected has no formality, given that everyone’s bag is filled with clothes and food: «this year the participation was extraordinarysays Rosalba Pisanu, head of the Sa Domo de Totus mutualism groupnow the word has spread and it is enough to hang the poster of the event on our noticeboard so that all the neighborhoods of the historic center of Sassari respond with interest to the collection and distribution phases».

Behind clothes sharing there is a large network of activism and a completely voluntary and independent organization: «to collect, sort, set up and distribute clothing and food – continues the manager – we need a large participation of volunteers and we can now count on a hard core of around twenty people thanks to whom we can redo the wardrobe and pantry of around three hundred families».

The commitment is great, but attention to the words seems fundamental: «charity has nothing to do with it – explains Cocco of the FGC – the dizzying increase in military spending and the political will to follow the warmongering and anti-people policies imposed by NATO are in fact starving a community already profoundly weakened and frustrated by previous crises. Faced with this situation, what is needed is not charity as an end in itself, but solidarity and popular mutualism to build a concrete alternative to poverty and precariousness!»
