The 10 February Committee, starting from Sunday 2 June, promotes the patriotic initiative called “Panchine del Remembrance” throughout Italy. It involves installing, in every Italian city, a bench painted in the colors of the national flag. The idea involves placing benches painted green, white and red, with a plaque dedicated to the memory of an Italian martyr of the Foibe, to the gold medal for civil merit of Norma Cossetto, an innocent young victim of Yugoslav barbarism, or to a Istrian, Julian, Fiume, Dalmatian exile who has particularly distinguished himself in the world of work and culture. For a shared memory and not to forget the tragedy of the foibe and the many innocent victims.
The 10 February Committee of Cuneo joins the initiative and acts as spokesperson for the project through its committees throughout the Province. “For some years the custom of installing benches has developed in Italy and each of which, depending on the colour, is dedicated to a worthy cause – explains Silvano Olmi, national president of C10F -. The ones we propose, painted with the colors of the Italian flag, intend to pass on the memory of the Italian martyrs of the Foibe and the exiles from the eastern border of Italy. The launch of the initiative, not surprisingly, was on Sunday 2 June, Italian Republic Day. Which is why – adds Olmi – we ask for the patronage and collaboration of local authorities, exile associations, arms associations and cultural associations”.
