After the meeting that took place at the Green Cross of Pietrasanta, organized by the Democratic Women’s Conference of Versilia, together with the Democratic Party, the promoters say they are “even more convinced that an impulse must come from below to implement what is foreseen by the new regional health plan ”.
Francesca Torricelli, member of the Equal Opportunities Commission of the Tuscany Region, geneticist doctor, delegate for Healthcare in the Conference secretariat, illustrated what the future of clinics and healthcare closer to the territory could be, as envisaged by the new regional plan. “Obviously – the promoters point out – we have to deal with the cuts to the sector coming from the Government and therefore it will not be an immediately achievable plan, but it may be important that a push comes from the Tuscan territories and municipalities to implement the reform itself in the shortest possible time”.
“The health houses could become community houses, and within these, where possible, there would be a clinic with an expansion of the professional figures currently envisaged, including that of the andrologist – continues the Democratic Women’s Conference of Versilia –. In fact, both tumors of the male genital system and cases of male infertility are on the rise. In fact, while females, after they emerge from pediatric age, more frequently turn to gynecology, this does not happen for males. The clinic should therefore become a territorial structure for all genders, which accompanies throughout life, with the presence of an endocrinologist, a nutritionist, and so on. Compared to the present, there would also be a much greater number of gynaecologists, nurses and midwives to meet any need. The clinics should be equipped with adequate equipment such as ultrasound machines. The regional plan includes primary clinics, the most complete ones, and secondary clinics, which are smaller. Currently the Tuscany Region is trying to carry out a survey of the structures found in the various territories”.
As regards voluntary interruptions of pregnancy (IVG), according to the 2022 report, in Tuscany 3570 people turned to counseling centers, but 2715 interruptions were carried out: “this means that the conversations that take place also leave room for reflection , to total freedom of choice – underlines the Conference –. If anything, the work that still needs to be done is to get all the women to return for prevention activities, while according to the data only 1500 returned to the clinic after the IVG”.
As far as Versilia is concerned, there is currently only one large clinic that carries out various activities, in the Tabarracci Health House in Viareggio and another clinic with smaller activities at the Croce Bianca in Querceta.
Finally, the Democratic Women of Versilia maintain that “the battle to be undertaken, also involving the individual Tuscan municipalities, is for the rapid implementation of the new regional plan, which would make assistance in this delicate sector more widespread and effective”.
