There National Sports Day, which took place yesterday – Sunday 2 June – made it possible to celebrate the importance of sporting activities and movement in all its forms throughout Italy. An opportunity that also allowed the champions of the winter disciplines to make their contribution by attending the numerous initiatives promoted by CONI. To Aostain particular some of the greatest exponents of snow sports met, including the blue of the national cross-country skiing team Francesco De Fabiani and World Cup biathlete Samuela Comoladressed in the colors of the Army Sports Center.
An opportunity to convey one’s experiences and bring people closer to sport, also through an Army stand installed in Piazza Chanoux, to keep company with the numerous stations for the promotion of the most disparate sports disciplines. Then, at 3.30 pm, on the sidelines of the awards ceremony with the title of Chevaliers de l’Autonomie of the alpine skiing champion Federica Brignone and the coach of the Swiss national alpine skiing team Matteo Joris, there was also space for a minute of silence in memory of the two victims of the tragedy on Monte Zerbion, in which the two ski instructors lost their lives Elisa Arlian and Jean Daniel Pession.
Interviewed at the microphones of Rai, Francesco De Fabiani wanted to remember the two missing athletes: “Two mountain lovers, ski instructors. I’m so sorry, I met them right at the top of Lyskamm last year. This news struck me greatly, as it affected everyone. It’s a great tragedy, unfortunately it happened.” His memory is also joined by that of Marco AlbarelloOlympic and world cross-country champion, also present in Aosta: “When young people are missing, important kids for our community are missing, reference figures because they were very important sportsmen and also very present in the area. Especially for the teaching they gave to the other young kids.”
