Cagliari, Fabio Piga’s father: “He was a gentle giant, I hope that whoever killed him understands what he did”

The desire to talk is, understandably, little. One of her sons was killed on a Saturday night which, from yet another evening of checks in Donegal in Cagliari, turned into a tragedy. Fabio Piga is no longer with us, stabbed to death by a nineteen-year-old, Yari Fa, who, just as he has broken a life, has, at the same time, definitively thrown it to waste: a murder, beyond what will be the final punishment, is an indelible stain not only on a social level, but also internally. There is a father, Gianmario Piga, a retired carabiniere, who lost a son to whom he passed on the very high values of legality and honesty. Wearing a uniform means serving your country and being of help to others at all times. You know, or at least imagine, the many messages of condolence written on social media for Fabio, and extended to his family, and therefore to him too. Some former department colleagues, between yesterday and today, sent him a short message of condolence, understanding the heartbreak. The young people and even the 40-year-olds of Cagliari knew his “Fabione”, the “gentle giant”: “I truly thank everyone for their closeness. I don’t even feel resentful, it’s of no use anyway. We hope that sooner or later whoever killed him will understand what she did,” says Piga. “Fabio was a good boy and that’s why she ended up like this,” observes her father. Also because, otherwise, if Yari Fa “had found a bad guy he wouldn’t have had the time” to do what he did. That is, use the knife found in the bathroom of the restaurant on Via Caprera to stab him to death. Difficult, very difficult to speak in such moments and immediately after tragedies with a capital T. Fabio worked for the internal security of a large company in southern Sardinia, the nights as a bouncer were an extra thing that he did above all, various users write on social media, to avoid any annoyance or unpleasant situation to his Silvia.

“My son was known by many people, a gentle giant despite his size, he was quite strong and robust”. A way to make it clear that, if he had wanted to react in a clear and bloody way, Fabio Piga would have done so. But his DNA, so it seems, was totally identical to that of his father: never violence, always dialogue. But in that argument, which took place in a small space and with growing shadows surrounding the young murderer’s drug use, which still remain to be confirmed. “Fabio was strong and robust enough that little would have been enough for him, but unfortunately it didn’t go that way for him”. His partner Silvia Perra was destroyed, as she posted a note on social media, “made” on a sheet of paper towel, with a very touching message written by Fabio some time ago: “One of our many notes that we left on the table at home, so that when we woke up we would have our certainty. We, may the construction of our future never end, and now I don’t know what to do.” Fabio Piga’s friends, after hearing from his closest family members, opted for a “special” fundraiser to honor him: “We know well how simple a person he was with a big heart. Those of the young people who knew him who would like to participate can contribute to the Amici del Branco ODV association #crewdeglistortini in various ways: Iban IT71D0760104800000006494297 holder of Amici del Branco ODV, personally at Viale Europa 10 in Quartu Sant’Elena or via Paypal, e-mail [email protected]” explains Sara Inconis, hairdresser from Quartu, friend of Fabio and Silvia: “You belonged to this disgusting world full of malice, but you were not part of it. Too big and too good. I will miss walking through that door without seeing your smile and hearing your welcome jokes. Happy travels from all of us young nightlife people.”
