Women continue to be marginalized in research, scientific publications, and various other fields. Even today, gender equality, despite the goals achieved in recent years at a local, national and international level, even within the scientific community, remains strongly conditioned by stereotypes.
This is why the association ScienceSocietySciencewhich he has been organizing in Cagliari since 2008 the Science Festivalannounces the sixth edition of the for the year 2024 Woman of Science Award in Sardinia which intends to offer recognition to female figures who have contributed to giving prestige and advancement to Sardinia in the scientific field. And if in recent years the Equal Opportunities Department of the Municipality of Cagliari wanted to add a section dedicated to young female researchers from Cagliari, from this year the Award becomes threefold with the introduction of the Woman of Science in School Awardaimed at teachers serving in Sardinia in first and second level high schools, who have distinguished themselves in science teaching and in the dissemination of scientific culture.
The award is organized in collaboration with the Universities of Cagliari and Sassari, the Inaf-Astronomical Observatory of Cagliari, the Cagliari section of the Infn, the Cagliari branch of the Institute of Neuroscience of the Cnr, the department of Equal Opportunities of the Municipality of Cagliari. Applications must be received by 1pm on 15 July 2024 by e-mail to [email protected] indicating in the subject “Woman of Science Award – Name and Surname of the candidate”. The winner of the Woman of Science Award will receive 1500 euros as a prize and a souvenir parchment. The winner of the Young Science Woman Award will receive one thousand euros and a souvenir parchment from the Municipality of Cagliari. The winner of the Woman of Science in School Award will receive one thousand euros and a souvenir parchment.
