Downy mildew damage: mayors dissatisfied with regional aid

Meeting this morning between president Marsilio and vice president Imprudente with the 50 mayors who had launched an appeal for help for the damage caused by downy mildew to the vineyards.

Most of the 50 mayors who signed a document requesting help, short and certain times for companies damaged by downy mildew last year were present today at a meeting with President Marsilio and Vice President Imprudente at the Chamber of Commerce. The representatives of the Regional Council illustrated the actions being perfected such as the immediate disbursement of interest-free loans of €10,000 through the Fira equal to 2.5 million which are about to be disbursed which will be followed by a new tender equal to another 2, 5 million to reduce interest rates for the suspension of interest rates on existing mortgages to which another 5.2 million will be added to give non-repayable contributions to damaged companies through Agea.

“We believe this effort by the Abruzzo Region is still insufficient to restore the approximately €200 million in damages suffered by a good part of the 15,000 winemakers – we read in the note sent by the mayors’ spokesperson Angelo Radica – We have asked President Marsilio to intercede with the Government national so that it increases the scarce resources currently available by approximately €17 million to compensate the damaged wineries with non-repayable contributions.”

The Mayors have recognized the effort made so far by the Abruzzo Region but it is not enough and they are asking the Government for €80 million to grant non-repayable contributions.
