Tensions in the port: the speech of the mayoral candidate Lorenzo Cosimi

Published at 2pm

LIVORNO – Below we publish the press release sent to our editorial staff by Lorenzo Cosimicandidate for mayor of Livorno for the Italian Communist Party.

The feared tensions between TDT and CILP cannot help but arouse apprehension, both in terms of the development of our airport and in that of the world of work.

The biggest concern, as always in these situations, concerns the negative repercussions on both wages and workers’ rights, triggering a war between the poor. A clash that would mean further misfortune for our port where wages are below the national average.

First of all, I believe it is essential to comply with the port master plan which in that area (west side of the Tuscan dock terminal) does not favor a strong but residual role for rolling stock and gives a function of primary importance to container traffic.

Given that the volume of container traffic determines the possibility of taking advantage of European funding as it is a port classification measure, safeguarding the fact that our port is not expelled from the TEN-T networks. Therefore the figure of the president of the port authority becomes essential, the hope is that he will be of control and supervision in ensuring that the general objectives are respected so that our port is still a fundamental driving force of the Livorno economy. Livorno needs to plan for the future and revolutionize the present“.
