Cycling World Championships, Reguzzoni’s proposal: “Let’s bring them to Bergamo”

Bringing the road cycling world championships to Bergamo: a “dream” that Marco Reguzzoni, Forza Italia candidate for the European Championships, would like to achieve. Reguzzoni will present himself as an independent, as president of the political association “I Repubblicani”. He is also head of the committee that brought the 2008 edition of the World Cup to Varese, of which he was also president of the Province at the time.

“Bergamo deserves this opportunity – he explained -. I have already started contacts to set up a substantial promoting committee to explore the feasibility of the project. It is a vision proposal, which is projected between 2029 and 2030 and which must be built today, in absolute concreteness and with the right interlocutions at an international level”.

It has already gathered support

Reguzzoni, who intends to push the initiative also in Brussels, has already collected a series of signatures.

“From an institutional point of view, I talked about it with national political leaders such as Alessandro Sorte And Stefano Benigni and with the candidate for mayor of Bergamo, Andrea Pezzotta: everyone is enthusiastic. Among the available partners, there are companies such as Eolo and Sitip, a historic and reliable local entrepreneurial brand that creates the fabric for the pink jersey at the Giro”.

“The World Cup project – concludes the candidate – would require a private investment of around 20 million euros, but would be capable of attracting 50 to 100 million in infrastructural works, plus a gigantic related industry. My Varese managed to benefit greatly from it for sixteen years ago. Even Bergamo and its wonderful territory, for tradition and beauty, now deserve to seize this opportunity”.
