If you too are afflicted by daily anxieties, don’t worry, because the month of June has in store “Festival of Despair – As you do, you make mistakes”which will go in scene in Andria from the 7th to the 16th. Promoted by the Circolo dei Lettori of Andria, and now in its eighth “very desperate” edition, the event offers the opportunity to meet important authors, and can boast the presence of numerous guests from the literary, cultural and artistic panorama, from Apulian Nicola Lagioia, passing through Saverio Tommasi, Vito Mancuso, Paolo Berizzi and Ghemon, just to name a few.
“The festival was born from the idea that desperation is also a literary feeling, perhaps the most literary of all,” Gigi Brandonisio, one of the organizers, explains to Telebari, “a feeling that over time has given rise to the greatest masterpieces of literature . We started in particular from a phrase by Beckett, who said regarding hope: ‘it’s just a charlatan who never stops deceiving us’, and since he stopped believing in it he began to feel good”.
We focus on various facets of desperation, examining more abstract themes such as failure, error in all its forms and making a bad impression, and then moving on to analyze decidedly more concrete and impactful issues in contemporary times, discussing for example patriarchy, feminism and precariousness. The response from the public from year to year is always very positive, although the very young are still difficult to intercept, while the university group is the most interested among young people. The success also goes to the provocative and irreverent communication campaign, characterized by an ironic and sharp language that pervades all the Festival’s social pages: one humour which manages to envelop the event in a captivating way, without polluting the depth of the contents covered.
