Sassari, the relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis on display

Venerated and exhibited this morning in the church of Sant’Agostino in Sassari, the first degree ex corpore relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis. Donated to the Gremio dei Viandanti which, for some time, has been offering young people the life of the fifteen-year-old of Lombard origin as a model of holiness.

Carlo Acutis died in 2006 due to leukemia after an existence, albeit brief, dedicated to the Catholic faith and, before dying, he declared that he wanted to offer his sufferings for the Pope and the Church. Since then, hundreds of blogs and sites have been created that talk about him and, in 2018, Pope Francis declared him Venerable.

The unexpected healing of a child, associated with the presence of a relic of Charles, made it possible to start the beatification process which concluded in 2020 while the canonization process is currently underway. After the exhibition, Monsignor Gian Carlo Zichi, Archpriest of the Turritano Chapter, officiated the mass during which papal gifts such as Pope Francis’ chasuble and Pope Benedict’s chalice were also used.

Before the ceremony, the Feast of the draw of the Obrieri and the Oath of the Gremianti took place, a tradition that demonstrates the ancient belonging to the Confraria de Itria present in Sassari since at least 1477. In the evening, however, Corpus Domini will be celebrated.
