Elettra Friselle was one and a half years old, the little girl who died after swallowing the cork of a plastic bottle. The doctors at the Venice Lido hospital, where the tragedy occurred, requested the intervention of an air ambulance from Treviso but the vehicle was unable to leave with the patient on board due to an engine failure. Subsequently, the little girl was transferred to Padua with another helicopter. The emergency flight was of no avail: within a few hours, her heart stopped beating.
The tragedy
It happened on Friday evening, between the walls of an apartment in San Nicolò. While she was playing, Elettra found the cap of a plastic bottle and put it in her mouth. The parents, Ivan and Emili, as soon as they noticed that their little daughter was no longer breathing, began to clearing maneuvers to clear the airways. Despite their attempts, they were unable to extract the plug from his throat. After alerting 118, mum and dad then decided to go to the Lido hospital with their car to save time.
The air ambulance with the engine failing
The emergency room doctors intervened promptly with life-saving measures, but the little girl suffered cardiac arrest. In the meantime, the other health workers have asked the operations center to send an air ambulance from Treviso. Once on site, however, the vehicle could not leave with the little girl on board because the engine stalled failure. At that point a helicopter was requested from Padua.
The last hours of the little girl
Although the doctors managed to extract the plug from the trachea, little Electra’s condition continued to worsen.
As reported by -, the little girl was urgently admitted to the pediatric intensive care department of the Padua hospital around 11pm. All the staff in the department did everything possible to save her life, but every effort was in vain . The little girl’s heart stopped at dawn on Saturday.
