Darsena, something is moving. MSC Italia purchases a building to be the headquarters of the ‘Le Navi’ agency

A thousand square meters between Raviplast, a packaging manufacturing company, and the Darsenale brewpub have been owned by MSC Italia since last Wednesday. Almost the entirety of the building located in Darsena in Ravenna, excluding two small parts adjacent to the neighbors, becomes the new headquarters of the offices of the maritime agency ‘Le Navi’ currently in via Aquileia. It should, however, be noted that on 15 May the MSC Group announced a change regarding its presence on Italian territory: the historic maritime agency of Genoa Le Navi, which represents Mediterranean Shipping Company in our country, has become MSC Italia.

“The name change is the completion of a planned path. The Le Navi Group has consolidated itself over the years with excellent results, so we were ready for this last step”, explains Roberto Viola, first Branch Manager of Le Navi and today in the same role for MSC Italia in the Ravenna office. Mediterranean Shipping Company is the leading cargo line management company in the world with around 500 container ships available. It has representation in the major commercial ports of the world and is also present in Ravenna where it works with the TCR terminal. “It is also an important reality for the related industries, in fact it covers around 60% of the volume of containers handled in our port”, underlines Viola. The branch manager was born in Ravenna and began his profession as a shipping agent in 1986 at the historic maritime agency Marino Giada, “at the school” of Gianni Giada, in 2000 he moved to the Le Navi Group.

“The idea of purchasing in the Darsena, on the water, was liked by the management of Genoa. Ravenna today does not have a port in the city, but has the Candiano canal, where about thirty years ago, when I started working, they arrived the commercial ships, it is part of the history of the port. It also seemed like a suitable location from a functional point of view, it is close to the center, the Maritime Directorate and the Port Authority. But above all we are happy to be part of the recovery project valorisation of this area”. Viola concludes with a joke that looks to the future: “If MSC Italia maintains its presence in Ravenna, I am sure that it will mean more and more development for our local reality”.
