L’AQUILA – Great celebration and emotions yesterday in Gagliano Aterno, in the province of L’Aquila, for the inauguration of the “Simon Tanner” bookshop, as part of the Libriganzi Festival, which will come alive today and tomorrow, with the presentation of books and new artistic editorial initiatives, concerts and debates.
But yesterday afternoon the great and long-awaited event was the opening of the “emigrated” bookshop from Rome, followed by its two owners Rocco Lorusso And Vincenzo Goffredor, in the small town of the Subequana valley, after 17 van trips, necessary to transport over 24 thousand volumes from the historic second-hand bookshop ‘Simon Tanner’ in Rome, they arrived in their new home.
This is how Rocco Lorrusso explained the decision to leave the historic headquarters in the Appio Latino district of the capital, where Simon Tanner operated for thirty years.
“Business in Rome was no longer going well and the desire to live in a smaller, quieter, visceral community arose. In all of this I was lucky enough to know Raffaele Spadano, creator and host of the Neo project in Gagliano Aterno, and the enlightened mayor of the village, Luca Santilli. After having also visited other towns in Abruzzo, from Fontecchio to Tione, from Navelli to Civitella Alfedena, the choice fell on Gagliano due to the excitement and extremely great pleasure that can be perceived here in promoting the territory, in creating culture”,
Also in Gagliano Simon Tanner will offer rare, out-of-print, antique, exclusively used books, meticulously procured over decades by the two partners.
The genres range from art to literature, from poetry to science, to philosophy, to foreign literature, some volumes also in English, French, German and Spanish. Historic books which in the new context will also be the reason for meetings, debates and initiatives, starting from the very day of the inauguration of the bookshop.
And today the second edition of Libriganzi comes to life, a mountain festival under Mount Sirente Velino, born from the collaboration between Momo edizioni, Radio Antiche Rue, Montagne in Movimento and the Municipality of Gagliano Aterno
A very rich program aimed both at the inhabitants and at all people who want to get to know this extraordinary reality on a sustainable and economical weekend in the mountains.
