Accused because he was believed to have instigated the murder of the man who had been convicted of the rape of his 15-year-old daughter, who later committed suicide. The Benevento prosecutor’s office, as reported by Il Corriere della Sera, has requested the trial for Lucio Iorillo64 years old, former worker, father of the little girl who took her own life on 6 January 2008. Giuseppe Matarazzo, 45 years old, was killed near his home with two gunshots on the evening of 19 July 2018, a few weeks after having served a sentence of 11 years and 6 months because he was found responsible for abusing the girl. According to investigators, the murder was committed out of revenge.
The request for indictment, for which the judge for the preliminary hearing will have to express his opinion, is a new development in the Carabinieri investigation into the murder of the 45-year-old, on which the Supreme Court had annulled the sentence of the Court of Appeal of Naplesissued on 14 March 2023, with which the two men believed to be the alleged killers of the Samnite shepherd and who had been arrested in December 2018 were acquitted of not having committed the crime.
A sentence, the second degree one, which had literally overturned that of the Court of Assizes of Benevento which, on 6 October 2021, had sentenced the two defendants to life imprisonment. According to the Samnite prosecutor’s office, Iorillo was the instigator of the crime, which he organized after paying 20 thousand euros, partly paid, to the two men. The 64-year-old would have created an alibi to immediately exit the list of possible suspects by meeting more people.
