Satisfaction from the Carabinieri of Asti who yesterday had implemented an order applying precautionary measures issued by the local GIP office at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, after the investigations started in December 2023 to identify those responsible for the damage and theft, which occurred on the night of December 24, 2023, of speed detection and optical license plate reading systems installed in both directions of travel along the state road 231 Of Asti.

The detailed investigations made it possible to attribute the event to a criminal association based in Asti Island, professionally dedicated to crimes against property, in particular thefts from homes and businesses, ascertaining a direct correlation between the velox event and numerous thefts against fuel distributors which occurred in the provinces of Asti, Cuneo and Turin starting from the first days of December.
The suspects, according to the investigations, had damaged the cameras and speed detectors, with the aim of ensuring impunity when committing predatory crimes and therefore eliminating the video surveillance systems installed along one of the main arteries of this Province.
The investigations, carried out between December 2023 and May 2024, have made it possible to identify all the members of the criminal group, ascertaining the existence and full operation of a criminal association based within agarage on the Island of Astisubjected to seizure.
The events between Asti, Cuneo and Turin
The constant and daily monitoring of criminal dynamics has made it possible to attribute the following events recorded in the provinces of Asti, Cuneo and Turin to the association:
Ten thefts to the detriment of fuel distributors set up using a petrol engine cutter (identical to the one used on the night of 24 December along the ss. 231) in order to force the column of the self service and remove the money contained inside;
Three home burglaries in order to remove vehicles, weapons and money and precious objects contained inside safes;
Seven thefts within companies and shops in order to remove the money contained in safes, vehicles and various equipment of high commercial value.
