Sassari, Giuseppe Conte at the Piazzale Segni market: “In Europe to oppose austerity and protect workers”

Sassari Crowd at the market in Piazzale Segni, on the morning of Monday 27 May, for the former prime minister and leader of the 5 Star Movement Giuseppe Conte, who after meeting the journalists took a tour of the stalls together with the mayoral candidate of Sassari for Campo Largo, the Democratic Party exponent Giuseppe Mascia. At the center of Conte’s attention is not only the electoral campaign for the local elections, but above all that for the European elections: “We must oppose at all costs this new austerity policy which is regaining strength in Europe. The union must become increasingly competitive, also protecting our productive fabric” he stated before focusing on labor policies: “We must protect workers, focusing on the minimum wage and the reduction of working hours”. A passage was dedicated to the government of Alessandra Todde: “The priorities for the newly installed regional government are infrastructure, transport, connections with the continent and beyond, and healthcare” said Conte. “They will also be for the upcoming administrative appointments” he explained, in the only moment of the meeting with the press dedicated to the municipal elections of 8 and 9 June. Then, a joke on renewable energy: “In Sardinia we are faced with a disastrous situation, linked to the poor planning of the previous council. Now with Alessandra Todde the plan of suitable areas will be implemented, to pursue the ecological transition, without giving up dialogue with citizens and to respect the landscape and natural resources”. The former prime minister also commented on the latest news from Palestine: “The Rafah massacre is there for all to see, will Europe and the Meloni government do something to stop it, or must we settle for the usual abstentions at the United Nations?” and from the Russian-Ukrainian front: “We are the only political force that is truly committed to peace, while the Italian government, Europe and NATO remain inert.” (edited by Davide Pinna/video by Ivan Nuvoli)
