FANO «The new master plan will have a serious and irreversible impact on the area of the former sugar factory and on the entire city, if it is not modified». With this urban political analysis, the active citizenship group Aria Clean is presented to the people of Fano, born from the mobilization of residents of the former sugar factory area against the planning of a food logistics hub.

First public initiative

The occasion is the meeting this evening at 9pm in the parish hall of San Lazzaro: the first public initiative of the committee which will explain why it is a priority to stop the urban planning forecast for the former sugar factory, included in the Prg definitively adopted by the majority of the municipal council in April (and now being examined by the Province), with important defections in the centre-left of the council itself. Priority not only in the interest of the residents, but of all the citizens of Fano.

Four negative consequences

According to Clean Air, there are four negative consequences of the logistics hub which incorporates into the PRG (on the initiative of mayor Seri, supported by the councilor for urban planning Fanesi, now candidate for mayor of the centre-left) the request for ownership of the area (passed in 2022 with the acquisition at judicial auction from the bankrupt company Madonna Ponte, which brought together with a cartel logic the main entrepreneurs of Fano, the industrialists Paolo Andreani and Giancarlo Paci).

First consequence: «An increase in traffic and a risk to the safety of citizens who frequent that area (for example those who want to reach the new swimming pool)».

Second: «A worsening of air quality, a deterioration of the surrounding neighborhoods, an increase in risks to the health of residents, students and workers».

A blow to the tourist economy

Third: «A serious blow to the tourist economy of Fano: those who would like to come to a seaside city whose coastline is besieged by an industrial area in potential expansion (this destination remains within the city more than 30 years after the decommissioning of the sugar factory, a short distance from the Adriatica state road, beyond which there is the sea area, ed.)?”.

Fourth: «The abandonment of the project for a naturalistic park of Metauro».

Sharing deleted

This planning, approved at the last minute by canceling the planned conversion of the production area to a mixed zone (residential, services and greenery), therefore becomes emblematic for the group of active citizens (as was foreseeable and had been promptly foreseen) of a policy to be rejected , which eliminated a long process of shared planning (after the rejection in 2015 of the variant of the previous Aguzzi council, which envisaged a large commercial area with services).

And which does not implement the city’s protection of girls and boys due to the presence near the primary school of a roasting plant authorized in 2016 despite the ban on first and second class unhealthy industries, now removed due to incompatibility with the center’s food depots logistics.

Non-partisan committee

This evening in San Lazzaro the mobilization initiatives will be illustrated. «We are a non-partisan group of citizens – the committee says of itself -, which welcomes within it not only the residents of the area of the former sugar factory, open to the entry of anyone who is sensitive to the cause».
